It's All
About Arts
*********************************************
Give us a brief bio of yourself.
*********************************************
C.S.: A theater and writing major from Towson State University in
Maryland, I have worked in regional theater, commercials, and voice-over work as a SAG and
Equity actress for the past 20 years including 11 years at Universal Studios in scripted
and improvisational theater. I also assisted in developing original scripts and training
actors in a number of the shows that Universal offered over the years in its Florida
facility.
In the year 2000, I and Martha Seely co-founded Boggle-Goggle Enterprises,
a company committed to promoting the use of practice to help children cope with new and
frightening experiences. Utilizing the "practice" concept, I wrote the
screenplay and music for the company's first children's video entitled "Pinatta's
View- A Trip To the Dentist". The video has been awarded the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio
Gold Seal Award 2002, the Aegis Award and the International Film and Video Festival Award
and has garnered endorsements from Kids First and the Dove Foundation. It has also been
selected by both Meg's Gifts and Growing Together charities as a valuable element in a
package they provide to young children who are facing challenging health issues.
I am presently marketing the video and developing future scripts from my
home in Amherst, Ohio where she resides with her husband, her 7 year old daughter and a 55
pound standard poodle.
*********************************************
What is your medium?
*********************************************
C. S.: Presently my medium is video.
*********************************************
How long have you been doing your art?
*********************************************
C. S.: I have been performing as an actor/singer for 20 years. This
is my first screenplay and first foray into song writing. The arrangements for the songs
were created by her husband Steven Snyder.
*********************************************
Do you make a living at your art and what advice would you give someone else who would
like to do the same?
*********************************************
C. S.: Both myself and my business partner Martha Seely are actively
selling the video but the revenue is not presently enough to support either of them
exclusively. Their biggest words of advice: "Be patient. For anyone attempting the
children's video market, know that it is highly competitive and slow to embrace new
product. In developing the business plan, cut production costs as much as possible to
insure that you have allowed an adequate amount for marketing the final product. No matter
how great a product is, if no one has heard about it, who cares. You also need to have an
alternative source of income so that you can devote the necessary time to marketing and
development without depending on its income to support you."
*********************************************
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
*********************************************
C. S.: Biggest Challenge in the market... oversaturation with
similar products and a lack of patience to develop a company. It is important to not to
grow frustrated and lose momentum when success or exposure does not happen quickly.
*********************************************
What art-related organizations do you belong to?
*********************************************
C. S.: I am member of the Screen Actors Guild and Actors Equity and
Boggle Goggle Enterprises is certified through the Women's Business Enterprise National
Council. |
