About Arts
*********************************************
Give us a brief bio of yourself.
*********************************************
K.O.: Kat OConnor earned a Bachelor of Arts in drawing with highest
honors from Montana State University in 1990 and a Master of Fine Arts in painting from
the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1995. She has exhibited her work nationwide,
including three solo shows at regional museums, and won numerous awards. Her work is
currently represented by Joyce Paulson Associates of Cambridge, Massachusetts and Kennedy
Studios in Provincetown, Massachusetts. OConnor has shared her love of art with
students at Southwest Texas State University, the University of Texas at San Antonio,
Worcester State College in Worcester, Massachusetts and currently at Worcester Art Museum
and DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln, Massachusetts. She is a 2002 Worcester
Cultural Council Artists Fellow and a 2003 Frances A. Kinnicut Award recipient. Her work

What is your medium?
*********************************************
K.O.: I am currently working in oil, although watercolor is a medium I
also work with.
*********************************************
How long have you been doing your art?
*********************************************
K.O.: I have been making art since I was a small child. I have done
many other things, but my heart is always with art making and the creative process.
*********************************************
Do you make a living at your art and what advice would you give someone else who would
like to do the same?
*********************************************
K.O.: I do make my living with my art, and with teaching art in museum
studio programs. Artists who want to make a living from their work need to take the
business side of their art activities very seriously. They should plan on spending a good
deal of their time taking slides, researching and contacting galleries, developing
relationships with collectors, and promoting their work in general. Don't count on
someone 'discovering' you, get your work out there.
*********************************************
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
*********************************************
K.O.: The economy. Artists always have to deal with varying levels
of income, but the art market does seem to be hit hard and quickly when times are tough.
Drastic cuts in public funding are another sign of this, but that affects everyone
negatively.

What art-related organizations do you belong to?
*********************************************
K.O.: I am a member of ARTSWorcester |
