It's All
About Arts
*********************************************
Give us a brief bio of yourself.
*********************************************
S. F.: IM 47 years old life long resident of Roslindale. Graduated
Roslindale high in 1973. At that point I wanted to go to Art School but never did. I just
picked up painting 3 years ago. I am married with a beautiful wife and daughter. I
am a state licensed Oil burner Tech, and have been in that field for 24 years. I
paint as a hobby, I also enjoy Guitar and fishing. My long range goal is to someday have a
small studio.
********************************************
What is your medium?
*********************************************
S. F.: My Medium is a mix of both Acrylic and Watercolor. On my Floral's
I use both. When I work on watercolor paper I use about 70% watercolor and sometimes I
will use a little acrylic on it also. What I feel it needs.
*********************************************
How long have you been doing your art?
*********************************************
S. F.: I have been painting seriously for the last 3 years I try to do a
few paintings a month. Sometimes I can do more and some times less. I found a large basket
with nice artist paint brushes in Trash in an alley in Brookline one day while I was at
work. I said WOW these sure look nice and took them home and left them in basement for a
year, then I bought some cheap paints and began to paint. The big thing was these were
good quality paint brushes unlike anything I ever saw before and I was amazed at how I
could paint with them. After that I began to do more and more up to this point I have
probably done 40 paintings {rough Guess)

Do you make a living at your art and what advice would you give someone else who would
like to do the same?
*********************************************
S. F.: I do not make a living from my painting. I do it as a hobby and
relaxation. I hope to maybe within the next two years set up a small space where I can
work in freedom, my long range goal is to paint and sell. at some point I would love to
get a small house on Ocean in Maine with a window facing the ocean and have a studio.. My
Dream. I would also encourage anyone to just try to paint anything it does not
matter what you do just do it. I myself had very little confidence in my abilities It was
others who saw my paintings that told me that they look good. Just hearing those words
helped me keep going forward.
*********************************************
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
*********************************************
S. F.: I would say the biggest challenge would be to get Art shown
in public and reproducing paintings as prints. Everything I have learned has come by sure
luck and chance, just like this great opportunity you have afforded me!
*********************************************
What art-related organizations do you belong to?
*********************************************
S. F.: I belong to the West Roxbury Art Association. and I will be
joining the "It's All About Arts" Association, also |
